district 9

Hey guys,

Time for another round of me telling you what to see and do. This post is about the recent the new movie district 9. I have to admit I have been wanting to see this movie since the first teaser. I built up so many expectations for this effort by director Neill Blomkamp. I wanted to see how he would use his work on stargate, and translate it into this movie.
First off, I would like to say this movie does not disappoint. I went in believing it to be a straight forward aliens vs. humans movie. BOY WAS I WRONG. This movie combines the action and charisma of "Independence Day", the moving race war feel of "last king of scotland", and the reality of "cloverfield" (this movie should never be related to that terrible excuse for a monster movie)
The visual effects added to the hand cam footage really set the movie off for me. I really appreciated how everything was so seamlessly combined. The only, and I mean only, thing that I found sub par..............nope nothing. : )

Funny People

Hey guys,
Time I pushed my opinion on everyone once more. Today I watched the new judd apatow endeavor"Funny People". I have to say that even though I try to not get into the whole hype that is the apatow express, I was a little excited for this one. I am a huge adam sandler fan, and have a soft spot for Jonah Hill ( socially awkward fat kids need to stick together). The theme of this movie is the stand-up industry, with a dash of a Rodney Dangerfield. It focuses on a doppelganger of sandler himself, who is diagnosed with cancer. The cancer story itself is generic, and mildly heartwarming. My attention was drawn more to the constant battle for "who wants to outshine sandler", and not the story line itself. While seth and jonah deliver the exact duplicate of "knocked up" and "superbad", some actors actually did worse. Eric Bana and Jason Schwartzman both delivered annoying and uncomfortable performances. It was up to seth Rogen, the man you want to do the truffle shuffle so bad, to carry this movie. Although the movie did get me to laugh, it did not have the power combo like "pineapple express". With all of the big names, it was a bit of a disappointment.

This movie ranks a viewable for me

First Blog

Hey everybody,
I wanted to kick off my entertainment blog with a bang. I always thought of blogging as self indulgent, but I'm kinda over it. So here we go....

I wanted to start off by telling everyone bit about me and what I am doing these days. Along with working under the corporate tree at apple, I have been working desperately on my record. It isn't going as far as I had hoped, but that is kind of a standard. I wanted to start this blog in the hope that I could blog for a company. I will pursue this endeavor and see where it takes me.

ANYWAY : )

Last night, I saw the new installment of harry potter. I honestly went in expecting the worst. I had heard that it had been cut and trimmed into a different story. As I watched, I realized they were right. The only difference is that the cuts and "changes" that they made were of good substance. They made the movie very paced, and set up for the next movie. The only thing that caught me a little was an imbalance of ron/hermione and harry/ginny.
Overall, I was astonished at the product that was released. The sound was better than ever. The effects in audio and video were spot on. I also think Gambon really found the right Dumbledore in this movie. Of course, it had to be the one he dies in. The cave scene really got me. I could not have asked for a better interpretation.
I hope everyone will go out and support this wonderful film. Even if you live in NYC, and you have to pay 12 dollars for it. I spent around 30 on star trek, so you can shut it : )

Thanks and enjoy
